Works on Paper

Works on Paper

These works focus on the act of seeing birds in the landscape.
The pencil drawings are usually studies. Detailed and focused works, often small, some very small. I often accept commissions for drawings, but only for birds I have seen in the wild. please contact me via the contact page to discus any ideas you have. Small drawings make excellent and thoughtful gifts.

My painted or ink works flow from my experience outside when watching birds.
The weather, the light across a landscape, the often terrible difficulty of seeing the birds you know are there somewhere, all that is embedded in these pictures.
The birds in these works are often very small. some can be under 1cm long in a much larger work. This is deliberate, when you see a bird in the wild its often far away, that swallow a speck in the sky, those oystercatchers fly away if you get too close.
I also try to catch the stillness that is needed to see many (most?) birds. The feeling of calm and peace that falls as you stand quiet to watch a bird without disturbing it.

Many of these works are sold unframed, for ease of postage and for you to fame in a way that suits your own sense of style.
